In Her Studio(s)

Warren Chang "The Artist in Her Studio"  2004
Contemporary realist painter Warren Chang is a respected instructor as well as practicing artist. He was moved to paint this contemplative piece of one of his students at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco (an institution with which he is still affiliated.) Chang says, "She was a graduate student named Shu Ping... The painting was completed in 2004 so she has since graduated and returned to China."

A native Californian, Chang attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena where he received a degree in illustration. After a successful illustration career on both coasts, Chang changed over to only fine art in about 2000. He is represented by Hauk Fine Arts in Pasadena.

In this second piece we can clearly see Chang's fascination with Johannes Vermeer and Diego Velázquez. It also presents a common theme in Chang's work, biographical interiors.
